Historical Context

Lysimachos was one of the Diadochi (successors) of Alexander the Great. After Alexander's death, Lysimachos established his kingdom in Thrace and parts of Asia Minor. His coinage, particularly these tetradrachms, are renowned for depicting the deified Alexander, thereby legitimizing his rule by associating himself with the great conqueror. These coins were widely circulated throughout the Hellenistic world.
