Historical Context

The Morgan Dollar series was authorized by the Bland-Allison Act of 1878. The 1893-S Morgan Dollar is a key date in the series, renowned for its extremely low mintage of only 100,000 pieces, making it one of the rarest and most valuable regular-issue U.S. silver dollars. Its scarcity is attributed to the economic Panic of 1893 and a general decline in silver production.
