Historical Context

This coin is a rare and notable error. In 1943, the United States Mint switched the composition of the cent from bronze (primarily copper) to zinc-coated steel to conserve copper for the war effort. A small number of copper planchets from 1942 were accidentally struck with 1943 dies, resulting in these highly sought-after error coins. The description explicitly states it is 'one of the more notable errors of the Lincoln Cent series'.
