Obverse DesignAdolph A. Weinman's 'Walking Liberty' design, originally used on the Half Dollar (1916-1947). Lady Liberty strides towards the sun, draped in the American flag, holding oak and laurel branches. Inscriptions include 'LIBERTY', 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and the year '2004'.
Reverse DesignJohn Mercanti's heraldic eagle design (Type 1). A large eagle with a shield on its breast, holding an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left. Above the eagle are 13 stars representing the original colonies. Inscriptions include 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', '1 OZ. FINE SILVER', 'ONE DOLLAR', and 'E PLURIBUS UNUM'.
