Historical Context
The Peace Dollar series (1921-1935) was minted to commemorate the end of World War I. The 1921 issue is notable for its high relief design, which proved difficult to strike and led to a lower relief design in subsequent years. It was authorized by the Pittman Act of 1918, which required the U.S. Mint to strike millions of silver dollars from melted silver coins.
