Historical Context
The 1999 Delaware quarter was the first coin released in the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters Program, which ran from 1999 to 2008. Each state was honored with a unique reverse design, issued in the order of their ratification of the Constitution or admission to the Union. Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution on December 7, 1787, earning it the nickname 'The First State'.
